Maris Paal’s “Nausea” was selected in spring from a list of eight projects. The exhibition consists of paintings and an interactive installation. In the gallery, sweetly pastel-toned mixed media works are set in contrast to unpleasant visuals of the paintings and the installation.

The artist adds: “The meaning of human touch has recently become something repulsive. Direct contact with another person is now dangerous and dirty. I focus on nausea as a natural physical reaction when faced with something unpleasant or, vice versa, with something exceedingly sweet.”

The Cultural Endowment of Tartu, Hotel Pallas OÜ and Pallas University of Applied Sciences in co-operation with the Tartu Artists’ Union founded the Hotel Pallas painting scholarship in order to assist the development of painting and the creative output of the students. The scholarship is awarded to a student or a group of students (maximum three people) from the Painting Department of the Pallas University of Applied Sciences. In addition to the exhibition in the Tartu Art House, the winner also received a 1000 euro prize.
