"It's about small things that grow big. Man is a sentient being. He sees and feels the world as impressions, fragments, which he considers to be a complete reality. He enlarges things and decreases them. Leave nothing as it is. Man interprets the world as symbols and allows himself to be influenced by the meanings he has devised. He often perceives these signs physically, with his body. The most effective means of change are hidden in man. They cannot be touched or measured. No one can know who a bystander might be in the future if they were allowed to do so. And if he gave himself that permission. "

This idea of Esa Saarinen is the inspiring text of my new solo exhibition “Memory”. The body’s ability to store memories at the cellular level is amazing. Emotional states, situations, words experienced as a small child can still have a strong effect on us. Through the whirlwinds of history, it is often not possible for a person to be “the smith of his own happiness” – there is no possibility to choose what is stored in both bodily and subconscious memory. By constantly working with ourselves, we can connect only a tiny part of what is stored at the cellular level to our conscious memory and reach through perceived perceptions. The selectivity inherent in memory intertwines the world of emotions perceived by man through both the truth and the false of the past. My personal experience of the scalability of body memory prompted me to address the topic of memory and to explore the experiences of adults on that surface. With my paintings, I want to guide the viewers to think about the manifestations of their own body memory and to become aware of the relative nature of memory. “The message of Mara Ljutjuk’s paintings is that no matter what burden anyone bears or no trace of it, it is beautiful if accepted.” T
