In Jakob Solgren’s exhibition Berget, a number of works of art are shown, which together form a conversation about searching for a language. It is a search many of us may recognize. It is about a visual language for the inner images and the experiences of the inner reality that is in constant creation and which forms a cornerstone for who we are and for how we see, seek and interpret the environment around us. In artists’ work, we encounter visual worlds that either consolidate or challenge us. We like and dislike. We receive and reject. The language of image and works of art becomes mental journeys that both confirm and offer us resistance. Jakob Solgren has a great interest in this dualism, as much for the image that emerges as for the one who does not and is difficult to interpret. “Either my image speaks to me, or it does not speak to me.” So directly does Jakob Solgren formulate himself in the description of the inner dialogue that takes place between him and his own art but also with the works of other artists. Between this “either my picture speaks or not” there is a force field and a number of questions that he confronts in his works of art and seeks to capture. As a constant search for the artwork’s surface and depth.
