August Künnapu's painting exhibition "LIFE. Paintings 2003–2020" will be opened at the Rakvere Theater Gallery. A selection of works of art with themes typical of Künnapu is exhibited - scenes of everyday life, portraits of people (Ants Antson, Michelangelo Antonioni, etc.), sports, architecture and cats. All portraits feel the excitement of living. To the delight of the residents of Rakvere, the artist's paintings "St. Paul's Church in Rakvere" (2003) and "Challenge near the ruins of Rakvere fortress" (2014) are on display.

In his latest painting book “∞” (2018), Künnapu has written the following lines that fit well with the concept of this exhibition:

“Painting is the most immediate, readable, but at the same time slowest of the arts. In today’s hectic world, in the age of seconds of uploading and downloading, a painter tries to calm down rushes, his job requires no batteries, high speed internet or electricity. Today, the artist is trying unsuccessfully to take over the profession of an investigative journalist and retell what is happening in society, forgetting the artists’ sense of composition, color and sense of humor, which has been a tool for millennia. It is not in the artist’s power to control it.
