Artist Sten Saarits will present the installation "Waiting" completed in the autumn of 2020 in the ARS Showroom gallery. At the heart of the audiovisual work is a short film that follows people in a constant state of waiting in different urban situations. The video work, which inhibits the passage of time, focuses on the feeling of alienation from the world and oneself, visualizing the spatial-temporal relations related to crisis states of mind. Uncertain times provide an inconsistent picture of the future, in the light of which staying on standby can seem to be the most pleasant and safest place.

Sten Saarits (1987) is an interdisciplinary artist who works mainly with time-based media. Saaritsa’s artistic practice, which emphasizes repetitions of themes and situations, is characterized by an attempt to create material micro-landscapes from spaces of thought, where the everyday states of mind of modern society open up in a new light. Saarits has graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts with a master’s degree program in New Media focusing on sound art. Saarits graduated from the Saarits Academy of Arts with a degree in installation and sculpture. In 2013-2014, Saarits studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, where his study program focused on sound art, performance and film art.
