There is this deliciously weird, even eerie world of layered and entangled, real and imagined materialities or material realities in a painted object. In the illusory world of figurative painting, materials or elements don’t really exist, and yet they do. The bodily struggle or wobble of the painter often makes the attractiveness of the odd material even stronger. The painter’s nervous system is intimately reflected in the emerging material body of the painting. As the painter themself could be considered a hybrid of their own cells and interests, the cultural impacts, their symbionts and other biological factors, so could the painting be seen as a result or hybrid of different forces and even conflicting interests of the materials and events forming it.
