Oil on canvas
Painting “Torso” was the first big canvas experience for me. It was different from the beginning. “Torso” represents the struggle I faced with self-harm and trying to fit societies beauty standards. In this painting I display my own seventeen-year-old body tied at the waist with black fabric. The fabric stretches on the skin and changes the shape of the body to a slimmer figure. The body is molded and damaged. The idea for this work began as I started writing my bachelor’s thesis in which I go in depth about eating disorders, post traumatic stress disorder and different forms of self-harm. This work debuted at a group exhibition “Passion Attraction” in 101 gallery basement in Kaunas besides “Swan I” and “Swan II”.
