Tempietto Longobardo - Oratory of Santa Maria in Cividale, 2021
lõuend alusraamil, akrüül The temple, or oratory is part of cultural heritage of northern Italy, located in small town , called Cividale del Friuli, on the bank of river Natisone. I love Cividale and visit it yearly , so many of my artworks are dedicated to the historical vibe of North Italy. It was erected in the 8th century under the rule of a Germanic people called the Lombards who ruled most of the Italian Peninsula from 568 to 774. This is the most important and best preserved example of Lombard architecture, which resembles styles found in Ottonian, Roman, Lombardy and Carolingian art. Included within the temple and chapel are decorated frescoes and high relief sculptures of saints in stucco. The view is from the outside , rear part of the temple. It also reminds the medieval architecture of the Old Town part of my home town Tallinn. I particularly love the warmth of the grays of Italian stone used for the architecture and I love the greenery , that wraps around the buildings.
