Sininen ja sen pisteet, 2026

38 x 51 cm

Ink pen and embossed dots on paper

The text part of the work is a repetition of word sininen (blue in Finnish), in calligraphic writing. Sininen is written without the dots of i, and the dots are on the next paper, typed with a typewriter but without ink. The paper is upside down, which makes the dots appear as embossings, like in Braille. Sininen ja sen pisteet (Sininen and its dots) refers both to dots, like stars and seamarks, in blueness, and the dots in the word sininen. Thus the name cannot be translated to English, because there are no dots in word blue. The dots on paper at first glance seems to be a Braille translation of the sininen part, which eventually it is not. The work reflects on the ideas of untranslatability of systems and languages, and asks, what gets lost and changes in translation.
