Silkscreen on paper

“And as Habit weakens every impression, what a person recalls to us most vividly is precisely what we had forgotten. That is why the better part of our memory exists outside ourselves, in a blatter of rain, in the smell of an unaired room or of the first crackling brushwood fire in a cold grate.” (Proust.)

The graphics series and the artist’s book “Olga” is dedicated to the great-grandmother of the artist, seamstress Olga Wilhelmīne Ķirule. Although the artist did not remember her, she tried  to reconstruct her personality and living space in the story, photographs and letters. According to Proust’s method the artist compounded scattered memories in her mind, fictional characters and other people memories of the great grandmother – as seamstress forming costumes out of dress pattern pieces. In the sewing process, as well as in graphics techniques, time is coexistent and present. Silkscreen and lithography print works are made on the basis of 20th century 60-90’s graphic aesthetics – at the time when Olga Vilhelmīne Ķirule lived.
