Growing skills, 2024

The figure of a girl appears repeatedly in my work – not as a specific portrait, but more as a feeling or a state of being. A girl can be both gentle and cold, open and closed. I’m interested in how opposing traits can coexist within one person – how strength can lie in silence, and vulnerability in sharpness.
This character does not represent an ideal of goodness, nor its clear opposite. She is changeable, multifaceted – sometimes light, sometimes dark. These paintings don’t tell fixed stories but rather suggest different ways of experiencing and perceiving oneself, without the need to define anything too precisely.
This work was part of my solo exhibition at Haki Art Gallery, held from April 4 to May 4, 2024, in Tartu, Estonia.
