“A little secret is hidden in all of Katrin’s paintings. What makes them so fascinating is that from within and between the countless colors and layers of paint, entirely new images emerge each time. Sometimes flowers appear, other times an entire garden at once — as if, besides the flowers, there were someone else there… someone we once knew. Or someone we haven’t truly met yet.” The artist’s work is multilayered; new images are constantly unfolding. “It depends on the light — how it falls — on your own mood, and also on the distance from which you view the paintings. That constantly creates new images within yourself as well,” describes one viewer, who also compared the roles of artist and gardener. “Just as a gardener plants something in the garden and it begins to grow, bringing forth new colors and layers, so it is with paintings: the artist applies their colors and creates the work, but then it begins to live its own life. The colors bloom in their own way at certain moments, and their interactions change. These are living paintings, and they awaken new images within you.”
