Flags I, 2022
Linocut on paper
The artwork is part of a 6 print series titled “Flags”, executed in linocut. The work is a reflection of the social and political fluctuations triggered by the global pandemic since March 2020. The author observes the formation of new, sometimes sharp, and contradictory opinions in a society trying to formulate a reliable explanation of reality under the conditions of fear and uncertainty. “Flags” examines how a person forms an opinion in a crisis and how an individual’s worldview is affected by the society in which he or she lives in. The series of prints depicts a period of fluctuations in which an individual’s worldview is distorted and changed. Stiff flags tensed in unnatural landscapes express unknown beliefs.
