This painting is based on a screenshot taken from the re-enactment of the painting of the coronation of Napoléon (1806-1807) by Jacques-Louis David in the film Desirée (1954). The painted back picture is in the same scale of the historical painting of David, both 9,79 m wide. Due to the format of the film screen, the original height of 6,21 m is now 3,85 m high.
