Through my diploma project, I explored the possibilities of applying principles of combinatorics in classical painting and analysed the interplay between systematicity, intuition, and randomness in the development of compositions and the painting process itself. As a practical outcome of this research, I created a series of four square-format paintings. The same elements recur throughout the works, varying in colour, size, placement, and their relationships to one another. Based on the content of the thesis, the four paintings were collectively titled Combinatorial Composition. They can be understood as individual components of a larger system that together form a unified whole. Each painting is equally significant when viewed independently, just as the complete composition is as a whole. The works have been individually named after emotional states characteristic of the human psyche. These titles serve as hints or references to particular feelings that I imagined while contemplating each specific painting within the series. Viewed clockwise, beginning with the lower left painting, the works are titled: Temptation, In-Between, Gravitation, and So Close II. Each painting measures 100 × 100 cm. The listed sale price applies to each artwork individually, except for Within Reach II.
