Oil on canvas
In the painting Cleanse me of my sins you see a sexual act between two queer female persons. In a time full of hatred and darkness in an icy world, the fire of eroticism is unleashed and becomes a comfort. The sex scene becomes soft power that is influence without force. It is about how to change what people long for and normalize, to be allowed to exist without charge, to explore sexual desires that a woman is not expected to explore. How a woman who immodestly explores her sexuality attracts criticism just by appearing to be a woman. I chose the Timberland shoes because I wanted something heavy as the bodies themselves but Timberland shoes is also a type of working shoe made for protection at work, so the shoes also suggest protection against some threat being so vulnerable. The naked body as something vulnerable and private and the shoes as public culture which speaks about the banal and the absurd.
