Bent but Not Broken, 2023

Burnt plywood
This artwork has been made using birch plywood and a primary element – fire. This unique burning technique has been experimentally developed by the artist and practised for more than four years. The delicate details are made with a tool called pyrograph, a metal pen-like device that heats up with electricity.
This work is about not giving up during the storms of life. As a proverb goes, it’s better to bend against insurmountable odds than be broken by them. Like a tree that has been bent by strong wind yet still has managed to survive and grow forwards.
This work has taken part in artist’s solo exhibition ‘Axis Mundi’ in Lisbon, Portugal.
