Chalk, ash and carbon on paper
The painting belongs to the cycle “Alternating“ which focuses on the following questions: When does ugly become beautiful? Why do we regard to some things and substances as disgusting? Where do those borders vanish? The cycle depicts mold and dirty spring ice becoming set on an aestheticised plane, changing and playing tricks on the receiver of the visual information. The cycle was exhibited at Vālodze´s Bachelor’s solo exhibition “Alternating” at Kalnciema Quarter, Riga in June 2016.
