Virge Jõekalda
Artist is based in: Estonia
Virge Jõekalda (1963) works with techniques such as drypoint and etching, which connect her to the traditions of printmaking. Yet her extraction of a meaningful fragment and its transformation into an image, the strength of her line, and her sensitive treatment of coloured surfaces reveal a path that is distinctly her own. Jõekalda graduated in printmaking from the Estonian State Art Institute in 1988 and has participated in numerous exhibitions in Estonia and abroad. Her work is held in many private and public collections, and she has received several awards. Jõekalda is a member of the Association of Estonian Printmakers and the Estonian Artists’ Association.
