Artist is based in: Lithuania
Sofija Juozapaitytė (b. 2003) is a Lithuanian interdisciplinary artist whose practice combines photography, moving image, painting, drawing, and sound. She graduated from the National M. K. Čiurlionis School of Art in 2022 and received a BA in Photography and Media Arts from the Vilnius Academy of Arts in 2026. During her studies, she continuously experimented with different media, further expanding her practice during an Erasmus+ exchange semester in the Fine Arts programme in Antwerp, Belgium, where her work was presented in the programme’s final exhibition.
Juozapaitytė’s artistic practice is driven by curiosity, observation, and an ongoing search for new ways of seeing. She is drawn to visually striking yet understated imagery, often documenting everyday moments through video and low-resolution photography. By observing how ordinary scenes transform through the camera lens, she reveals their symbolic and poetic potential.
Her work also explores people’s inner lives, focusing on emotions, memory, and lived experience. Travel plays an important role in her creative process, providing new visual impressions and encounters that become material for artistic reflection. Working across multiple media, Juozapaitytė creates immersive, atmospheric works that invite viewers to slow down, observe, and experience rather than seek definitive answers. Through carefully considered relationships between artwork, space, material, and audience, she creates poetic environments where meaning emerges through presence, perception, and contemplation.
