Silja Truus

Silja Truus (born in 1980) is an Estonian sculptor and gallery curator whose work delves into the deeper layers of human psychology and existential themes. She studied psychology at the University of Tartu and pursued further education in art, sculpture, and media in London.
Between 2009 and 2017, Truus participated in several exhibitions in the United Kingdom, showcasing her sculptures and installations. In 2018, she returned to Estonia, where she has continued her active artistic career. Her first solo exhibition in Estonia, titled “Depth in Heights, Grandeur in Lows”, was held at the Viinistu Art Museum in 2019 and explored the paradoxical nature of human existence.
In 2020, Truus presented her works in Tartu at the Vabaduse Gallery exhibition “HELETUME”. She has also participated in group exhibitions, including the Tartu Annual Art Exhibition in 2017.
Truus frequently employs found and recycled objects in her art, emphasizing the significance of materials and the emotions and meanings they convey in the final works. Her sculptures often reflect a deep psychological insight, encouraging viewers to explore the complexities of human nature.
In addition to her artistic pursuits, Truus is a curator and manages Haki Gallery, located in the Aparaaditehas Creative City in Tartu. Her works are celebrated for their profound exploration of existential questions, offering audiences an opportunity to engage deeply with the essence of human existence.
