Sandra Lääne (b. 1990) is an artist who primarily works with collage, combining acrylic painting, marker drawing, photography, and newspaper cut-outs. She received her BA from the Painting Department of the University of Tartu in 2013 and an MA in Art Education from the Estonian Academy of Arts in 2016. Collaboration and chance play an important role in her practice. The artist’s children, Osvald (b. 2022) and Vilma (b. 2023), often become co-creators of the works, as their drawings and brushstrokes serve as starting points or shape the development of the pieces. Lääne’s collages emerge through a layered and time-based process in which different materials, spontaneous marks, and deliberate interventions gradually form a whole. Her works often combine abstract fields of colour with detailed black-and-white drawings, creating visual spaces where childlike freedom and playfulness meet the artist’s conscious sense of composition. Lääne has previously participated in exhibitions in Estonia, Finland, and England.
