Marta Folkmane Emerging artist
Artist's country of origin: Latvia
Marta Folkmane (1999) is an artist (illustrator and graphic designer when working) freshly with a BA from the Art Academy of Latvia (Graphic art dept.).
She has participated in various group exhibitions held in Mark Rothko Art Museum (“When the cannons are silent”, 2024), Riga Art Space, Riga City Exhibition Hall (Printmaking IN festival, 2023) and more. She has also taken part in the open-air festival “Optižūns” for several years now, making installations and performances together with an art group “PAMA”. Her main role as graphic designer was a three year cooperation with Dans Jirgensons together with whom they made visual identity for Riga International Film Festival (years 2022 and 2023 received nominations for Latvian Design Award 2024). Marta also works as an illustrator, most recent work being illustrations for Daina Tabūnas' book “Raganas”. She now has an ongoing project with the main children's book publisher in Latvia “Liels un Mazs”.
In her works Marta explores the coexistence of time and space. Nature and its patterns, light and vibrations are a medium she uses when talking about invisible values. The aim of her works are to talk about subjective perception and experiences in ways they could be captured universally. Her main techniques are charcoal and graphite. For now.
