Lappy Mary (Maria Lapteva) is an Estonian painter. She graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts with an MA in Painting in 2014. She is a member of the Estonian Artists’ Association and the Estonian Authors’ Society. From 2015 to 2017, she served as Chair of the Board of the Estonian Painters’ Association. She has been exhibiting her work since 2008.
As an artist, she is fascinated by the process of searching for perception and form, as well as by working with previously unfamiliar materials. She likens this process to an archaeological excavation, where form and meaning gradually emerge layer by layer, offering both the excitement of discovery and a profound sense of fulfilment. For Lappy Mary, the state of searching is the most vital and authentic way of being—both as an artist and as a person—a process in which form and meaning are born through engagement with the material itself.
