Kristin Braks

Artist is based in: Estonia

Kristin Braks is an Estonian artist, graphic designer and art educator whose creative practice spans painting, printmaking and design. Alongside her artistic work, she works professionally as a graphic designer and occasionally as an art teacher and instructor. She holds a BA in Graphic Design from the Estonian Academy of Arts (2015) and an MA in Art Education from the joint programme of Tallinn University and the Estonian Academy of Arts (2020). She has also pursued further studies in art therapy at Tallinn University (2022). Braks’s work explores the interplay between order and disorder, carefully considered composition and chance. While her daily work in packaging design demands precision and control, painting and printmaking offer opportunities for experimentation, allowing materials and the creative process to influence the outcome. She works across a range of techniques, including acrylic and oil painting, watercolour, linocut and monotype. Her art brings together observations of nature, inner human experiences and an interest in capturing fleeting moments. Her solo exhibitions include Women – Different and Alike at Kuressaare Castle (2012), a painting exhibition at Pokaal café in Tallinn’s Telliskivi Creative City (2013), and Form Is the Norm? at Tallinn University’s Tallinn Gallery (2019), which continued at Oaas café until 2021. She also participated in the Estonian Academy of Arts graduate exhibition in 2015 and was selected as one of the ten finalists in the Viru Valge design competition for her packaging design. Among her recent works are the figurative painting series Modes (2024–2026), which explores different human states of being, and the watercolour series Nordic Birds (2023–2026). In her printmaking practice, she has explored uniqueness and the role of chance through series such as The Thistle has a Power (2022) and Silence (2023).
