Kintija Avena Emerging artist
Artist's country of origin: Latvia
My interest lies in contradicting human and non-human bodies making stories from both perspectives in order to
equalise them on a level of communication and social connections. I am researching body definition together with
their agency, possible brokenness and ability to replace each other. Therefore creating my own fictional stories and
connections is inevitable.
My name is Kintija Avena and I am researching narrative and the use of it in unsuccessful, successful and common
contexts. Initially coming from textile art field I have moved to the studies of contemporary art in Art Academy of
Latvia. Participated in exhibitions in Latvia, Germany, Lithuania, Canada. Taken part in group workshops led by Mark
Halson (Central Saint Martins, London) and Thomas Hirschorn between years 2019 and 2022. In 2022/2023 winter
semester attended HFBK (Höchschule for Bildende Kunste, Hamburg, Germany) MA time based media class with
Angela Bulloch.
In my practice I combine textile, photo and video mediums. The colour palette tends to include black/white and a
couple of intensive colours.
