Katrin Kabun

Artist's country of origin: Estonia

Katrin Kabun (born in 1966) is a textile designer who lives and works in Tallinn. She graduated University of Tallinn Haapsalu College (BA 2013, cum laude) and the MA of Estonian Academy of Arts (2017, cum laude) and continues her studies at  Estonian Academy of Arts for doctoral studies.


Katrin received EKA Young Applied Artist Award and the EKA’s Applied Research and Development Competition prize for the master’s thesis in the field of social well-being and/or work environment improvement.


In her design research, Katrin’s examines sheep wool as a valuable renewable resources and how it could be involved in product design. The research is based on contrasts – the transfer of the sheep wool as an archaic material to the modern design language. The search for tools to implement and maintain emotional and aesthetic values of the wool in the context of today’s sustainable design and living environment.
