Kalevi Tamm

Artist's country of origin: Estonia

Kalevi Tamm (born 1965 in Tallinn) took some “time off“ after numerous adventures and severe ordeals related to entrepreneurship in Cuba – and found a calling in photography, focusing on this field more actively since 2008. Being a self-taught artist, he believes it to be both his main weakness as well as greatest strength.

Tamm hasn´t devoted himself to any specific subject matter and says that he  photographs whatever grabs his fancy. He does, however, prefer architecture, architectural details, urban scenes, as well as the fascinating play involved in the intermingling of silhouettes and shadows. Explaining his taste as an artist, Kalevi Tamm states that “Just as I love black coffee, I soon realized that I truly savour black and white photography. I almost never drink coloured teas, and rarely indulge in taking colour photographs“.

In terms of the artist´s list of achievements, winning the international photography contest of LIFE magazine (2011) and participating in the SOHO Arthouse printmaking and photography exhibition in New York (2014) are particularly noteworthy.
