Kaia Hommik

Kaia Hommik

Artist is based in: Estonia

Kaia Hommik (b. 1969, Pärnu) graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Tartu. She has studied painting at the Estonian Academy of Arts, completing courses in composition and colour theory as well as the Painting A–Z programme of the Open Academy. In addition, she has participated for many years in drawing and painting courses at the KULLO Hobby Centre. The artist is also trained as a textile and silk painter.
She has held solo exhibitions since 2014 and has been a member of the Estonian Painters’ Union since 2025. In her painting practice, Hommik primarily seeks harmony and solutions to problems, drawing inspiration mostly from the nature around us. Technically, she favours a predominantly realistic style, while her work also incorporates abstracting and expressive elements. Alongside brushes, paint rollers play an important role in her process. According to Kaia, she aims to leave things deliberately “open-ended” in her paintings, allowing the viewer the freedom to tie the loose ends together in their own way.
