Irina Spakova

Irina Spakova (b. 1987) is a visual artist who lives and works in Riga. She has graduated BA and MA in Arts/ painting department from the Latvian Academy of Arts (2011/2014). Irina has organized solo exhibitions in Europe, Melbourne and Indonesia, as well she took part in group exhibitions and activities since year 2007. For the past 4 years she was traveling and studying in Southeast Asia, where she learned traditional Balinese music, gamelan and traditional Minangkabao arts, crafts in West Sumatra. As a visual artist she is focused on painting, simple line drawings, comics, storyboards, illustration, photography and soft sculpture making about personal, social and environmental issues. Her endless curiosity about human realities inspires her construct simple and at the same time subjective dialogue. With minimalistic visual art solutions she tends to create simplified reality and simplified realism where the base of sacred is the state in which the subject interacts with the world. Her work is always the result of observation and research of her own nature and nature, society, environment around.
