Iida K. Kilpeläinen Emerging artist

Iida K. Kilpeläinen

Artist is based in: Finland

Iida K. Kilpeläinen (b. 1993, Savonlinna) is a contemporary artist working primarily with printmaking. She focuses on relief printmaking, but her practice often takes multidisciplinary paths. In her practice, Kilpeläinen explores themes of transience and absence. Her work often reflects the passage of time, the traces left behind or the fleeting nature of everything. Recognizable objects from the visual culture of our time make the connections between personal and shared experiences visible. Kilpeläinen´s most recent work focuses on gardens: the gardens that one cannot visit anymore and the gardens that have never existed. The flowers wither every fall just to return the next spring, but they aren’t really the same flowers – just similar. The photography-based relief prints play with the idea of indexicality in photography. Kilpeläinen is completing her Bachelor´s degree in fine arts at the Arts Academy of Turku University of Applied Sciences, graduating in spring 2026. She has also graduated with a Master of Arts in art history from University of Turku in 2018. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Finland.
