Ieva Rižė

Artist's country of origin: Lithuania

Ieva Rižė is an interdisciplinary artist who resides and creates in Vilnius. She completed her bachelor’s studies at the Department of Monumental Painting and Scenography at Vilnius Academy of Arts under the guidance of Konstantinas Bogdan. Currently, she is pursuing a master’s degree at Vilnius Academy of Arts in the Department of Contemporary Sculpture, with Deimantas Narkevičius as her teacher. Initially, Rižė began her artistic practice through painting and later transitioned to creating three-dimensional paintings and sculptural installations. She attended various movement and theater seminars, delving into performance and becoming a member of the butoh movement and physical theater troupe “Okarukas” (2016-2018). Currently, she creates videos and performative practices that involve objects and costumes she has created. Her work explores themes of the human psyche, temporality, relationships in closed groups, and identity as well as madness studies and marginalised social groups. Her creative strategy involves continuing the search for meaning through poetics and the performativeness of text and bodies interaction with surroundings. She explores the relationship between the camera, performer, the artist vision and reception of the viewer.
