Esteri Lovisa Suomalainen (b. 1997) is a Turku-based visual artist, who uses self-portraits as a tool to address societal issues. In their work, main themes are bodily autonomy, gender diversity, shame and overcoming trauma through empowerment. They also use the artist’s name Einari Lovisa when their focus is more on trans and queer experiences. Finnfoto ry awarded them their first grant to complete their work “Where I Killed My Rapist”, which was showcased at NYTT 2026 graduation exhibition in Photographic Centre Peri in April 2026. Most recent exhibition where they had their art on display was Kvääri a group exhibition curated by Kulttuuribingo ry and shown at Pikigalleria, which was part of the Oulu2026 cultural program. From Nordic countries, they have exhibited their art in Finland and Norway. Addition to that they have performed poetry in the Netherlands. Currently they are completing their fine art studies at the Turku University of Applied Sciences, majoring in photography.
