Elise Marie Olesk Emerging artist
Artist is based in: Estonia
Elise Marie Olesk is a recent graduate of Estonian Academy of Arts (department of Sculpture and Installation). However, they have constantly divided themself between art and music, completing their studies in the field of interpretation pedagogy at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in classical violin. Olesk considers the study of materials to be a central part of their work: the poetry, tenderness, but also quiet violence that emerges from mutual relationships and contrasts. The meaningful and visual properties of materials collide, transform and create new fields of meaning. The artist also explores the nodes of human relationships and the lyricism of everyday life through the mixing of media such as graphics, sculpture and installation. For them, the processes of working with materials and techniques reveal socially recognizable images that can be referred to on a spatial level. Olesk has participated in group exhibitions at the Estonian Academy of Arts, the Estonian Museum of Applied Arts and Design, the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, and is also an active member of art collectives Kvadraat and Kunstiryhmitus.
