Edgar Tedresaar

Edgar Tedresaar

Artist is based in: Estonia

Edgar Tedresaar (b. 1984, Tartu) graduated with an MA in painting from the University of Tartu in 2014 and previously studied painting at the Pallas University of Applied Sciences. Tedresaar is particularly interested in panel painting and murals. An important aspect of his practice is material upcycling—the value-driven reuse of materials. His large-scale abstract paintings are created from canvas remnants tinted with natural pigments.

The artist has described his practice as shaped by two opposing poles. One part of him seeks inspiration in the inner world of the human being, which is transferred onto the canvas spontaneously through intuition. The other is fascinated by the rational world of machines, grounded in systems and expressed through mathematical models and sacred geometry. From these approaches emerge structured constructions. Tedresaar aims to find a connecting line within himself between realistic and surrealistic painting—remaining spontaneous and free while creating works that reflect the surrounding world.
