Diana Luganski Emerging artist
Artist's country of origin: Finland
I am a Helsinki-based visual artist with a background in fashion photography, currently pursuing my BFA in Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts and beginning my MFA in Time and Space department in 2025. I have exhibited my work in various group exhibitions and film festivals in Finland and Europe. Notable venues where my work has been shown lately include the Ateneum Art Museum and the Design Museum in Helsinki. I also continue to collaborate with various fashion brands and avant-garde fashion designers from Aalto University.
I work with lens-based media and installations, with a primary focus on still and moving images. In addition, I am also interested in sculpture. I am fascinated by the parallels between photography and mold-making, as both involve referencing tangible objects from the material world. My work is frequently presented in the form of installations.
I am particularly interested in questions surrounding the medium of photography and belief. I am intrigued by the simultaneous blending of documentary and fiction in photography. In my works, something obvious is often revealed to be something completely different, yet equally real. Within this exploration of questions of image, I explore various hierarchies (digital/analog, luxury/mass-market).
To me, art is the unconscious of our society and should be examined carefully. Depending on the viewer and the context, art can function as a telescope or a microscope—a lens through which we view the world, others, and ourselves. I see art as a way to suggest different perspectives on reality. I draw inspiration from a wide range of sources, from theoretical literature, artist films and fashion imagery to horror movies.
