Hedi Jaansoo has obtained BA degree in the department of photography, faculty of fine arts (2014) and MA degree in contemporary art (2018) at the Estonian Academy of Arts. She has taken additional courses in Bergen Academy of Art and Design, Norway. Current exhibition is Hedi Jaansoo’s second personal exhibition; the first one was held (together with Pire Sova) in ARS Project Room in 2016, titled „Slow hunch: pink satin.“ Besides the Young Artist Award Jaansoo’s artwork has been recognized with the Silver Badge of Adamson-Eric Scholarship (2017).
At the present exhibition, the artist displays a space-sensitive installation composed by fragile details; with minimal means a whole is being constructed that has a strong emotional charge. The artist herself describes her practice and relationship with her artwork as follows:“I do the things that I’m strong enough for, mostly. This time perhaps in a more radical way. Actually, it would be more exact to say that I do the things that are feasible for my weaknesses. For instance, my present weakness finds it feasible to deal with tiny golden things and small stones, with pearls and plastic hearts. With fragile objects leaning on each other while trying to remain intact. And they do, more or less, yet they might also fall apart. They might get nudged, or stepped on. No one might notice. Sensitivity might fail.“
Current exhibition belongs to the programme of TASE – the annual spring graduation show of Estonian Academy of Arts. The main TASE exhibition includes all MA graduation projects and selected BA graduation projects in the new academy building on Põhja pst. 7 from May 31st to June 16th, 2019. The Young Artist Award and the Young Applied Artist Award will be announced at the opening of TASE’19 in collaboration with the Estonian Artists’ Association. The extensive satellite programme of the festival presents students films in TASE FILM, offers presentations of selected graduation works in TASE Elevator Talks, provides feedback to your artwork from international experts in Portfolio Cafe and opens several diverse personal and group exhibitions by students.
