Audronė Zupkienė, a medical doctor by profession, says that twenty years ago the idea that something was missing in her life began to flicker in her mind. “I was obsessed by a peculiar feeling for about five years before I had finally discovered the joy of embroidery. After having embroidered several works of art, the name of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis began to occupy my dreams”, – A. Zupkienė recalls.

The author got much more inspired when she visited the M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art together with her husband and saw the painting “News”. The sight bewitched her, bringing peace to her heart. The inspiration was so great that when she began a cross-stich embroidery of this painting, strange dreams ceased. After guessing the riddle brought in the form of dreams and having finished the embroidery of the “News”, A. Zupkienė soon discovered another hint while walking along the seashore – a stone that was very similar to M. K. Čiurlionis’ painting “Peace”. Thus, one more idea was born of what another picture should be like. After a while, several more works appeared: “Fairy Tale (Kings’ Tale)”, “The Prince’s Journey” (the second painting from the triptych), “Friendship”, “Past”, and that’s not the end …

According to the author, it takes one or one and a half years to embroider a picture. The author spends a lot of time for this passion, and usually takes the means of embroidery with her when travelling, so as to be ready if the inspiration comes. Audronė never starts working accompanied by negative emotions.
