Kunstniku päritolumaa: Läti
Born in Riga, Latvia, Alise Rudevica is a photographer, printmaker and illustrator. In 2015 she graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with First Class BA (Hons) in Photography and received the Helen A. Rose Bequest Award for distinguished final year work. In 2016 she was also nominated for the Magnum Graduate Photographers Award. In 2023 Alise completed her Master’s degree in Printmaking at the Art Academy of Latvia. Alise’s artistic focus lies in capturing individuals and significant moments in their lives, aiming to evoke a pseudo-documentary quality that prompts viewers to delve beneath the surface. She is particularly drawn to the aesthetics of analog photography and combines it with mixed-media illustrations. Her work seeks to encapsulate human emotional experiences, weaving together elements of time, memory, and narrative. Currently, Alise is working on her ongoing project – a series of Photopolymer etchings depicting the diversity and fluidity of gender, with a focus on nonbinary and queer individuals. The artistic practice is rooted in close collaboration with models and influenced by her personal feelings and attitude towards gender identity, challenging traditional stereotypes associated with gender roles.
