Where Is Your Laima?, 2025
Digital jacquard weaving (wool, cotton), thermochromic dyes, integrated electric heating system.
“Where Is Your Laima?” is an installation about existing in-between: between light and darkness, knowledge and waiting, here and there. Laima, a figure from ancient Baltic mythology, acts invisibly – between beginnings and endings – carrying not only happiness but also its fragility. She is a state, a sign of transformation, a feminine sense of fate embedded in being. The installation is based on an archival bedspread’s cross motif – a symbol marking the point of intersection between earth and sky, where Laima is present. It is reinterpreted through enlargement, fragmentation, and digital jacquard weaving. The heat-sensitive textile surface reveals what fades and reappears – creating a space for waiting. The transformation of the artwork – how the surface changes in response to heat – can be seen in this video (footage sped up 10×): https://vimeo.com/1101536378 The artwork was exhibited in the “Graduation Show” (VDA Gallery Muitinė, Kaunas, Lithuania).
