cast aluminium, charred pine wood, concrete, PLA
The wooden components of the artwork are produced using CNC lathe. Their forms originate from 3D scanned antique furniture pieces, which have been further reworked by 3D modelling techniques such as, rescaling, stretching and other modelling techniques. Furthermore, the lathed pine wood elements are treated with the Japanese Shou Sugi Ban charring technique, which increases the wood’s resistance to moisture, among other things. The aluminium parts are cast from 3D-printed positives, using a ceramic shell technique. The artwork combines formal languages and rhythmic styles from various eras. The rather exuberant and overwhelming middle form is held together by a Juddian style wall of five concrete slabs. The sculpture draws from numerous aesthetic registers, with notable references, apart from Donald Judd, being Bruno Gironcoli and Matthew Barney.
