In this theatre scenography project based on Ričardas Gavelis’ novel Vilnius Poker, I depict the city of Vilnius as a distinct character that manipulates the reality and experiences of the protagonists. For the creation of the stage design, I draw on the locations mentioned in the novel and unfold them visually through the novel’s key metaphors: “Vilnius is a vast labyrinth with no exit,” “Vilnius is a dying beast,” and “Vilnius Poker.” I created visualizations of mise-en-scènes that evoke the absurdity of the Soviet era. I also designed costumes for the characters, reflecting each one’s personality, financial status, and temperament. For the “Kanukai” characters, I chose the motif of faceless humanoid figures.
