It’s like an outer facade to me. At times, my wall for escapism. A fortress I’ve had to uphold for years. But the material it was made of was transparent. [—] Murkily frozen is this sea, crisply dim is the lifeless garden, from the sky falls crystal stones in clusters, these homes where joy was recently shared with loved ones have faded into monotony. [—] Now I surrender as the last prince. It was my honor, but now I am your guardian of the grave. [—] (Arming 2024:841) The artist’s book describes Arming’s life before and after the heart transplant, consisting of two parts: “The First Assessment” (2019–2020) and “the Second Assessment” (2022–2023). Between these two parts, the book features a Polaroid photo series titled “Ceteris paribus Assessment”. Written in diary form, the book provides an opportunity to enter the artist’s inner world, witnessing the most personal struggles that accompanied the author during difficult moments. The work is part of the series “Reliability Assessment” with the second part of the work being “Touch Assessment”. The book was designed by Johanna Ruukholm, edited by Maris Karjatse and Milvi Veervald, the leather binding was made by Eve Kaaret, the bench was made by Oliver Kanniste, curated by Kleer Keret Tali, and the process was coordinated by Regina Tagger.
