Glass, Metal, Bones
Solve et Coagula is an ongoing sculptural series that explores processes of transformation through alchemical, queer, and ecological lenses. The title, taken from the Latin alchemical maxim meaning “dissolve and coagulate,” refers to a cyclical method of breaking apart matter, identity, or belief in order to reform it into something new. In this work, I use materials such as bone, glass, and metal to reflect on the thresholds between life and death and human and nonhuman — materials that are simultaneously fragile and violent, sacred and discarded. Each sculpture functions as an artefact or relic from an imagined cosmology where matter remembers being touched, digested, broken, or sanctified. The artwork can be hung up on the wall or presented on a custom tripod as shown in the picture.
