Modern Witches, 2025

110 x 220 cm
€2000

Oil on canvas

When reflecting on our cultures interaction through ages with the term “witch”, we can observe it overlapping with another term – rebel. Witches have always been rejected due to not complying with society’s norms. They embody a thirst for freedom through nature or magical knowledge. Witches throw away laws binding chains and live for souls’ ambition alone. What would an outsider in the time of old think while gazing upon young girls dancing and twisting around fire in the middle of pitch black forest? Their bodies dripping with blood and wild wind in their hair. Are they conjuring famine, death and plague or perhaps they commune with gods of old, pleading for health, prosperity and fortunate harvest? And what about now? They still would be found waltzing through the night, renouncing the spotlight of the role model, objectification of the female body and societal degradation of feminine energy. To be a witch is to be truly free.
