I am not a robot, 2024
Oil on canvas (triptych)
This painting triptych shows a series of 3 artificially generated faces of non-existent people. The faces exist only within a screen of blue light, which burns in to the retina after a moment of observation. It is said that the human mind cannot simply imagine a whole new face: all the traits will be borrowed from other people we have seen before. Something similar will happen if you train a machine to recognize patterns and create a new face. I borrowed these faces as a motif, to create my own “portraits” in a style of a physiological afterimage to visualize the ghostly features emerging from the darkness of closed eyes after viewing them. This references to a sort of digital-artificial reality that has been parasitically imprinted on to the vision.
