Glimmer, 2025

2400 x 1850 cm

Glass beads, a metal bar, video 25:35 min., soundtrack created by Anastasija Fokša

Have you ever caught a soft, swaying glimmer in the night sky above? It is part of certain city arteries, which move thousands of dwellers back and forth to their destinations, day in and day out. In daylight, they appear as black lines marking the sky, and in the dark, they disappear above to appear in small, magical flickers. Looking deeper beyond our common perceptions of the phenomena of daydreaming and mind-wandering, I seek them out in various structures of the city and accidental occurrences which primarily take place in the moments of passive nocturnal mobility. With a hand-beaded screen and a long-take of a single trolleybus ride through the night cityscape projected onto it, the work invites the viewer to come in, and give in to the flowing journey through the city. To let their thoughts drift away somewhere else, even if just for a while. Perhaps, daydreaming and mind-wandering can become a way of expanding the artwork beyond its physical boundaries or artist-suggested meanings?
