Nordic & Baltic Young Artist Award is the only international art competition in Nordic& Baltic region that involves young talents at the beginning of their professional career. Altogether 97 young talents are attending the competition in 2019 – 13 from Estonia, 25 from Finland, 26 from Latvia and 33 from Lithuania.
According to one of the founders of the contest, Andra Orn from NOAR.eu, the competition has well established its position in the art field. “During the four years NBYAA has grown into a significant competition for young talents in our region – they look forward to participating and see it as a good opportunity to introduce themselves in the art field, to get more attention and recognition. In the future, we would involve the young talents from other Nordic countries besides Finland,” she adds.
The competition reflects the situation of the contemporary art field today also giving the glimpse of the future in the art scene. Besides more traditional paintings and drawings artworks also include video, installations and performances.
Voting for Public Choice award is open until November, 15 at nbyaa.eu, where it also possible to take a look at all of the artworks submitted to the contest. The most voted artists – Public Choice – will receive a monetary prize of 500€.
The winner of Public Choice award will be announced at the award ceremony in Riga on November 17 as well as the winners of the Grand Prix, the Young Painter Award and Fotografiska Award. The winner of Grand Prix will receive a 2000€ monetary prize in addition to exhibition opportunities at Art Vilnius and Tallinn Art Week in 2020.
The winner of the competition’s Grand Prix, Young Painter’s Award will be selected by an international jury including Anne Klontz (USA/Sweden konstfack), Anna-Kaisa Rastenberger (Helsinki Uniarts), Anttonen Anni (Helsinki Uniarts), Pire Sova (Estonian Academy of Arts), Andra Orn (contemporary art platform NOAR.eu), Andris Vitolinš (Latvian Academy of Arts), Milda Dainovskytė (Vilnius Academy of Arts ) Aušra Trakšelytė (Vilnius Academy of Arts). Photo Award is given out in cooperation with Fotografiska Tallinn.
Nordic & Baltic Young Artist Award established in 2016, brings the best works from the graduation shows in Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania together on a unified platform, making the selected artworks better visible to collectors, curators and art lovers of the Baltic and Nordic region. The aim is to introduce and identify the brightest emerging talents in the Baltic and Nordic region and support the newest generation of artists in their professional endeavours. Last year, Elina Vikmane (Latvia) was awarded the Grand Prix and Laima Antonova with PubliC Choice Award (Lithuania).
The Award is coordinated by contemporary art platform NOAR.eu in cooperation with Art Academy of Latvia, Estonian Academy of Arts, Vilnius Art Academy and University of the Arts in Helsinki. This year Nordic & Baltic Young Artist Award is supported by JCDecaux.
