Åke Pallarp - Excited - A retrospective exhibition

Åke Pallarp moved between painting, sculpture and architecture. He often started from everyday things that he tackled in an imaginative, poetic and ingenious way. At Färgfabriken, the visitor can experience Pallarp’s visual universe through a selection of paintings, sculptures, objects and sketches. The motifs we encounter are often graphic and abstract or everyday environmental depictions from urban or rural areas, painted in contrasting colors. In his art, we can trace echoes of the urbanization Sweden went through from the 1950s until the artist’s death in the 2000s, through the contrast and the encounters between city and countryside. Pallarp also worked close to many of Sweden’s leading architects and carried out a number of public works with them. An example is the metro station  Stadion in Stockholm which he designed in collaboration with the artist Enno Hallek.

Åke Pallarp (1933–2013) was a Swedish artist, educated at Konstfack and Kungl. Stockholm Academy of the Arts, where he later worked as a teacher. He also taught architecture at KTH, the Royal Institute of Technology, and was a member of the Academy of Fine Arts. Pallarp is represented at the National Museum, Moderna Museet and Kalmar Art Museum, among others, and has created several public works around Sweden.
