A snippet from my thesis: Why have generations after generations of women have had to use their teenhood to weave and sew household textiles to their future husbands, and future homes?Their skill and handcraft was not labour that required compensation,it did not need to be mentioned, it was merely what was expected.
To know this, and deeply understand it by repeating the same movements millions of women have made whilst seated by their loom before me, forced me to approach material in a different way. Learning the genius and diverse ways in which people have managed to interlock fibres throughout history, awoke a sorrow and anger in me because I knew that a lot of these people were and still are left without any real recognition of their creations. And the fascinating logic, mathematics and effort still remains hidden for the majority.
